River Dee - March, april 2011
March did again suffer from an extreme cold spring and the fishing was more or less ruined by that. The best time the boys had in the fishing huts and in the pubs in the evening, The spring arrived when we arrived the 10 of April at Jim Paytons fishing hut at Upper Drum. The sun was warming well and the whole lower valley started to look green. The river went up many degrees and the fish was starting moving in the river. Catch me if you can was the team of the week. After 20 years in Dee, I have never seen so many fish running before. They was jumping all over on the way up the river, but catching them was not so easy. A few fish was landed, but for me I had to wait for the last morning and then I did a double in 2 cast, fresh as bars of silver.

The social aspect of that week was fantastic. Morten, Nils, Atle, Sergey and Frede was together with me enjoying the nice weather and superb lodge at the waterside, overlooked by Jim that always have a big smile on his face, thanks Jim. The week after we moved up the river together with the spring and the salmon to Ian Murray beats were he and his son David treats us like Kings. The same with Susan and Gordon at Glen Lui Hotel.

Some new arrivals from Norway meet us there and for Rolf and Asbjørn this should be the week of their life. Both landing stunning 14 and 11 fish with two personal best at 28 and 23lbs, well done boys. This was a week with floating lines and small flies and 20c in the air. This ended up to be the record week for Ian and for his books and together with the fantastic food at Glen Lui, a week that we never will forget as the party last night with the gillies, friends and Ken from the river board, what a party.
